Why are grains and legumes excluded from the paleo diet?

Grains and legumes are excluded from the paleo diet because of following reasons:

Anti-Nutrients: Grains and legumes contain compounds known as anti-nutrients, such as phytates and lectins. These compounds can interfere with the absorption of certain nutrients in the body and may cause digestive issues in some individuals.

Gluten and Lectins: Grains like wheat, barley, and rye contain gluten, a protein that can cause adverse reactions in individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. Legumes also contain lectins, which can be problematic for some people.

Nutrient Density: Grains and legumes are often less nutrient-dense compared to other foods allowed on the paleo diet, such as meats, fish, fruits, and vegetables. By focusing on these nutrient-dense foods, the paleo diet aims to provide a wide range of essential nutrients.
