Riluzole (Mechanism of Action)

Riluzole (Mechanism of Action):

Riluzole is believed to work by inhibiting the release of glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter that can cause neurotoxicity when present in excessive amounts. Overactivity of glutamate is thought to contribute to the degeneration of motor neurons in ALS. By reducing glutamate levels, riluzole may help protect neurons from damage.
