Impetigo: A Contagious Skin Infection

Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection that commonly affects children but can occur at any age. It’s caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.

Symptoms:

  • Red sores, often around the nose and mouth
  • Sores that quickly rupture, ooze, and form honey-colored crusts
  • Itching and soreness
  • In severe cases, fever and swollen lymph nodes

Types of Impetigo:

  • Non-bullous impetigo: The most common type, characterized by small blisters that rupture and form crusts.
  • Bullous impetigo: Less common, causes larger blisters, often on the trunk.
