Rosacea: A Red-Faced Issue

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face. It causes redness, often accompanied by small, red bumps that may resemble acne. While it can affect people of all ages, it’s most common in adults between the ages of 30 and 50.

Common Symptoms of Rosacea:

  • Facial flushing: A tendency to blush or flush easily, especially in response to heat, cold, stress, or alcohol.
  • Persistent facial redness: Over time, the redness may become permanent.
  • Visible blood vessels: Tiny blood vessels may become visible on the face, particularly on the nose and cheeks.
  • Pimples and bumps: Small, red, pus-filled bumps may appear on the face, often resembling acne.
  • Dry, sensitive skin: The skin may become dry, sensitive, and easily irritated.
  • Eye problems: In some cases, rosacea can affect the eyes, causing dryness, irritation, and inflammation.

Causes of Rosacea:

While the exact cause of rosacea is unknown, several factors may contribute to its development, including:

  • Genetics: A family history of rosacea may increase your risk.
  • Blood vessels: Abnormal blood vessel dilation in the face.
  • Immune system: An overactive immune response may trigger inflammation.
  • Microbial factors: Certain bacteria may play a role in rosacea.
