Bortezomib: A Proteasome Inhibitor

Bortezomib, sold under the brand name Velcade among others, is a medication used to treat multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma. It is a proteasome inhibitor, which means it blocks the activity of a protein called the proteasome. The proteasome is responsible for breaking down proteins in cells, including cancer cells.

Bortezomib is generally well tolerated, but it can cause side effects, such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and peripheral neuropathy (numbness or tingling in the hands and feet).

Bortezomib is a promising new drug for the treatment of multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma. It is often used in combination with other medications, and it is generally well tolerated
