Mesothelioma and Radiation Therapy (1)

In this article, we will discuss Mesothelioma and Radiation Therapy (1).So, let’s get started

Radiation therapy is one of the treatment modalities commonly used for mesothelioma, a cancer that is often associated with exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma can occur in various parts of the body, but Pleural mesothelioma, which affects the lining of the lungs, is the most common type.

Pleural Mesothelioma:

Radiation therapy is often used as part of the treatment approach for Pleural mesothelioma, particularly in combination with other treatments such as surgery and/or chemotherapy.

Curative and Palliative Intent:

In some cases, radiation therapy may be used with curative intent, aiming to eliminate or shrink tumors. In other cases, it may be used palliative to relieve symptoms and improve the quality of life.

External Beam Radiation:

External beam radiation therapy is the most common type used for mesothelioma. It involves directing high-energy rays from outside the body toward the cancerous tissues.

Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT):

IMRT is a more advanced form of external beam radiation that allows for more precise targeting of cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
