Diuretic Drugs

Ethacrynic acid 0.5-1.0 mg/kg/dose IV every 12 to 24 hr or 1-3 mg/kg/day q 12 hr oral.

Adult dose: 25-50 mg IV; 50-200 mg oral up to maximum of 400 mg/day.

Side Effects: Thrombophlebitis with intravenous use, fatigue, headache,
fever, IgA vasculitis, skin rash, abnormal calcium/phosphate, hyponatremia, abdominal pain, agranulocytosis, abnormal LFT, deafness and tinnitus, fever.

(Edecrin, ethacrin tab 50 mg; inj edecrin 50 mg per vial).

Furosemide 2-6 mg/kg/day q 12 hr oral. In emergency situations: 1-2 mg/kg/dose q6-8 hr may be given. The IV dose is one-half of the oral dose. IV infusion rate 0.1-1.0 mg/kg/hr.

Adult dose: 40-80 mg per day. For oliguria: 250 mg/dose increase every 6 hr up to maximum of 2g/dose.

Side Effects: Necrotizing angiitis, orthostatic hypotension, headache,
vertigo, skin photosensitivity, fever, urticaria, glycosuria, hyperuricemia, increased serum triglycerides, abdominal cramps, increased liver enzymes, blurred vision, deafness, interstitial nephritis. Risk of ototoxicity increases when infusion rate exceeds 4 mg/minute.

(Lasix, salinex, frusenex, frusem tab 40 mg; frusenex tab 100 mg lasix tab 500 mg; inj lasix, fru, frusim, frusix ampoule 10 mg per ml in 2 ml and 15 ml vials, ini lasix high dose ampoule 250 mg per 25 ml)

Hydrochlorothiazide 1-2 mg/kg/day q 12 hr oral. The dose of hydrochlorthiazide is 1/10th of chlorthiazide. As anti hypertensive: 12.5 to 25 mg once a day (maximum 50 mg/day)

Adult dose: 25-50 mg q 12 hr.

(Esidrex, hydrazide, aquazide tabs 25 mg, 50 mg; hygromne tab 100 mg biduret-L tab: Hydrochlorthiazide 25 mg + amiloride 2.5 mg; biduret tab: Hydrochlorthiazide 50 mg amiloride 5 mg)
