Antiretroviral Agents HIV Drugs

Stavudine (d4T) ≥14 days and <30 kg: 1 mg/kg/dose q 12 hr p.o.

Adolescents and adult dose: 30 mg b.d.

Side Effects: Nausea, headache, peripheral neuropathy, pancreatitis.

(Zerit caps 15 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg; stavir, stag, virostav, stadine caps 30 mg, 40 mg; susp 1 mg/ml).

Tenofovir First line ART for adults and pregnant women and children >10 years. Not recommended below 2 yr of age. 2 yr to <12 yr: 8 mg/kg/dose o.d.; Adolescents (>35 kg): 300 mg o.d.

Adult dose: 300 mg o.d.

Side Effects: Nephrotoxicity, hypophosphatemia.

(Tenvir, tenof, tentide, tenohep, tavin tab 300 mg).

Zalicitabine (DDC) Pediatric dose <13yr: 0.01 mg/kg q 8hr. Adolescents >13 yr: 0.75 mg 9 8 hr, one hour before or two hours after meals.

Adult dose: 1 mg q 12 hr.

(Hivid, DDC tabs 0.375 mg, 0.75 mg).

Zidovudine (ZDV, AZT) IV dose (term): 1.5 mg/kg 9 6 hr; IV (preterm): 1.5 mg/kg q 12 hr; For prevention of mother to child transmission; First 6 weeks: <2 kg: 4 mg/kg/dose q 12 hr; 2-2.5 kg: 10 mg q 12 hr; 22.5 kg: 15 mg q 12 hr; >6-12 weeks: 60 mg q 12 hr.

Pediatric dose: <4 wk: 4 mg/kg q 12 hr; 24 wk: 4 to <9 kg: 12 mg/kg q 12 hr; 9 to <30 kg: 9 mg/kg q 12 hr; ≥30 kg: 300 mg q 12 hour.

Adult dose: 300 mg q 12 hr.

(Retrovir, zidovir cap 100 mg, zido-H tab 100 mg; zidovir-300, zillion tab 300 mg; syrup 50 mg/5 ml).

According to NACO 2013 recommendations, the first line
regimen for ART for <10 yr retropositive children exposed to nevirapine, include Abacavir (ABC) or AZT (Zidovudine) + 3 TC (Lamivudine) + Lopinavir and Ritonavir.
