Complications
1. Pleuropulmonary amoebiasis, i.e. amoebic sterile effusion. It is treated with drainage and medical therapy.
2. Hepatobronchial fistula (rupture of abscess into the lung). Treatment is drainage and antiamoebic therapy.
3. Rupture of abscess into peritoneum (peritonitis): Percutaneous catheter drainage with antiamoebic therapy is best option.
4. Rupture of abscess into pericardium (pericardial effusion): Pericardiocentesis and medical therapy should be instituted.
