The catheter has a spiralized tip, which is straightened during insertion by means of a guided wire. Once correctly placed, the tip can be “locked” in the curled position by means of a string in the lumen, which is placed under tension by turning a lock at the external end of the drain. This curled tip helps to prevent any accidental dislodging of the drain. The drain has about 5 side-holes for drainage spaced 1 cm apart from the catheter tip. It can be used for drainage of collections in most locations including the renal pelvis.
