Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple calculation using your height and weight to estimate your body fat percentage.

  • How it’s calculated: BMI = Weight (kg) / Height (m)²

    • Weight is measured in kilograms (kg)
    • Height is measured in meters (m)
  • BMI Categories:

    • Underweight: Below 18.5
    • Normal weight: 18.5 – 24.9
    • Overweight: 25 – 29.9
    • Obesity: 30 or higher

Important Considerations:

  • BMI is an estimate: It doesn’t directly measure body fat.
  • Muscle mass can affect BMI: People with a lot of muscle mass may have a high BMI even with low body fat.
  • Other factors matter: Consider waist circumference, body fat percentage, and overall health when assessing your weight.
