It has two parts lateral and medial, lateral cremaster muscle originates from the internal oblique muscle superior to the inguinal canal, and medial cremaster muscle originates from the pubic tubercle and lateral pubic crest and gets inserted into the tunica vaginalis underneath the testis. It is innervated by the genital branch of the genitofemoral nerve and artery supply is through the cremasteric artery. Its chief action is to raise and lower the testes (scrotum) in order to regulate scrotal temperature for optimal spermatogenesis and survival of spermatozoa.
