Rectus femoris muscle
It anterior portion originates from the anterior superior iliac spine and posterior portion originates from the groove above the rim of the acetabulum and gets inserted into the base of patella and tibial tuberosity. It is innervated by the femoral nerve and artery supply is through the lateral circumflex femoral artery. It’s chief action is extension of knee and flexion of hip. Clinically rectus femoris strain or hip flexor strain is a very common sports injury especially seen in athletes and sports involving running, sprinting, jumping and kicking such as football, cross country running etc.
