Opponens pollicis muscle
It originates from the flexor retinaculum of the hand and tubercle of the trapezium bone and gets inserted into lateral side of first metacarpal. It is innervated by the median nerve and artery supply is through the superior palmar arch. It’s chief action is apposition of the thumb i.e touching the tip of the thumb with the tip of the fingers. Clinically carpel tunnel syndrome can lead to atrophy of opponens pollicis muscle.
