Treatment

Osgood Schalter DiseaseĀ is defined as the inflammation of the patellar ligament at Tibial Tuberosity characterized by pain and swelling in theĀ anterior aspect of knee.

Medical Management includes use of anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDS like Ibuprofen,diclofenac sodium,naproxene etc

Physiotherapy is gold standard for Osgood Schalter Disease and it includes

Cryotherapy i.e use of ice or cold packs to relieve pain

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy helps to relieve pain.

Exercise Programme includes Stretching and Strengthening Exercises viz

Hamstring Stretch

Calf Stretch

Quadriceps Stretch

Theraband resistive knee extension for Quadriceps strengthening

Theraband resistive knee flexion for Hamstring strengthening

Straight Leg Raise

Quadriceps and Hamstring Isometric Exercise

  1. I had that in my knees when I was a teenager. I am 6′ 1″ tall and I grew so fast that I developed Osgood. It was very painful. The stretching helped a lot. I also had shin splints and I had to stop playing basketball for awhile. Thank you for your posts. God bless!
