Symptoms and Complications of Chickengunya

Chickengunya is a viral infection caused by Chickengunya Virus (CHIKV) genus alphavirus. The infection is spread by mosquitoes ,the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes transmit chikungunya.

Symptoms of Chickengunya

Incubation period varies from 2 to 12 days.

High Fever above 39°C may be biphasic , lasts several days , breaking and then returning.

Joint and muscular Pain, Swelling and Stiffness

Nausea , Vomiting or Diarrhea

Rash , maculopapular type of rash

Other Symptoms include

Sore throat

Conjunctivitis

Cold fingers and toes

Dizziness

Complications

Neurological diseases like Guillian Barre syndrome, Neuropathy, Myelitis

Seizures

Myocarditis

Jaundice due to liver damage

Acute Renal Disease

Uveitis

Retinitis

Myeloradiculopathy

Chronic Arthritis

Vertical Transmission i.e from mother to child

You always bring very nice stuff to share. A great educational series for regular people to understand these condition better with a great writing style. Would be nice if you post source as well but I suppose there is no Hippa in India and Pakistan so you would be just fine…LOL Keep up the good work.
